Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need the Community News Links when I can access the information by going direct to the newspapers web site?
Community News Link monitors all Black Press newspaper web sites for you, eliminating the need to search manually over many sites.

How often is the data updated?
Each newspaper has its own deadline. As each paper publishes to its site the new stories are queried instantly for your "alert keywords".

Can I print out the data?
You are licenced to print out the story data and distribute it to 5 people in your office.

How do I change the email address that the alerts are going to?
Login with your username and password. At the bottom of the setup form you may change the email address. Click Submit when finished.

I'm getting way more email than I expected. What can I do to limit the emails?
Go to My Settings to make changes to your keyword settings. There are 2 options for controlling the search parameters for keywords or keyword phrases. For a precise match, check the box Exact Match Only. To restrict your search to specific news categories, click on Sections to Search, then check the sections you wish to search on. Note that different settings may be applied to each keyword.

I got an email that my account is expiring. How do I renew it?
Email us at: info@communitynewslink.com with your username, password and telephone number and we will contact you for renewal.

The name and password you provided when I signed up is long and cumbersome. Can I get a different one?
Yes. Go to Edit My Profile and enter a new name and password, then Submit.

The link in my email doesn't go anywhere when I click it. Is the server not working? It is possible that the server has been shut down for maintenance. Try again shortly. If it still doesn't work, give us a call. (604-309-9186)

The link in my email takes me to an error page. Is the story missing?
It is likely that your email client is not recognizing the link, or at least not recognizing a portion of the link. Highlight the link with your mouse in the email program and use the copy/paste commands to paste it into the web address line of your browser. If this persists, let us know. (604-309-9186)
